Skiing Winter 2013/2014

We had an amazing winter this year.  Maybe one of my most enjoyable yet.  Cooper and Isabel were great on their skis this year and could pretty much navigate the whole Snow Bowl mountain.  Cooper made a big leap this year as he started to ride the chair by himself.  This was so convenient as that meant that just one parent could ski with both big kids (and the other on the magic carpet with Emma).  Cooper's become much more daring on skis and prefers to go straight down the mountain, while Isabel is MUCH more reserved and makes more turns down the hill than you could imagine were even possible!   Emma loved skiing this year as well.  She still has yet to figure out how to turn, so she's still stuck on the learning hill.  We did take her up once or twice on the lift and she LOVED it.  Not sure we'll be able to get her back onto the magic carpet!  She gave both Josh and I very challenging quad workouts as we assisted her down the big mountain.

We were able to let go of her towards the bottom of the learning hill.  She wanted to do the whole thing by herself, frequently pushing away our hands demanding "I do it myself, I do it."  By the end of the season, she was able to ride the magic carpet on her own.  Next year's going to be her year!

The big kids.  This is absolutely the most fun I've had with the kids.  To be outside, exercising, challenging ourselves, being together and just plain having fun.  It is the best!

This is Emma's first ride on the big lift!

The big girls

There's Aunt Casey in the red pants.  She came up to visit us one weekend and practiced her snowboarding.

We even got a few runs in this season by ourselves!!!  Quite a treat!  (And thanks to Gumma for frequently watching Emma for us)!

Another great part of this ski season was time Gogo.  We had a blast skiing with him a few times.  I think he needed a stiff one after skiing with us though.  The kids are getting a little too speedy for his liking!

CHRISTMAS 2013

Picking out our Christmas tree.  We were lucky to get it up early this year.  The earlier the better!

Emma's turn this year to put up the angel.

My favorite picture! (and our Christmas card)!

November 2013

A pretty quiet month for us.  Isabel finished up her fall gymnastics.  We went skating a few times and had some good family time at Gumma and Gogo's.

October 2013

We finally cashed in on our Christmas present from Grammy and Gramps which was a weekend away without the kids!!!!  It was AMAZING!!  Grammy and Gramps came up from Virginia to stay with the kids, while Josh and I headed to Montreal!  I had not been since high school, and Josh had never been, so it was really fun to explore together.  We stayed in a very cute hotel and enjoyed being on our own schedule!

What's a trip these days without a "selfie?"

Ripton Ridge Run
This was the first year that the kids participated in the Ripton Ridge Run.  It's a 5 or 10k race for the true runners, but they also have a mile run through the woods for the kids.  This was the first "organized" run that the kids did. They did great!  It was fun to see them enjoy being outside with their friends and moving!  We hope to make this a yearly event for us!

Ribbons for everyone!

Halloween
What's an October post without Halloween pics?  We had a nice Halloween. The kids were quite happy in their costumes.  We went to the annual jack-o-lantern event at Helen Porter Nursing Home.

We also went to the Swift House Inn for a Page One Literacy event that the college kids were putting on.  This was a great time.  They had cookie decorating, face painting, Halloween crafts, coloring, pumpkin decorating, and of course, reading!  We were lucky to have the Perine kids join us for this!

The actual night of Halloween was not great weather, but we braved the rain and hit some houses on South Street from Gramma Ali's house.  The kids still love handing out candy from Gramma Ali's house the best.  I think Cooper knows every other kid that comes to the door!
